Free time? lets make more models

I have a bit of free time and I have finished my big project which was the Cave city. I have done a few textures for my friends and needed more stuff to fill out my show reel, so I thought I would do some basic modeling of inanimate objects.

I decided to  model a tree as they are quite hard to do and I thought i could challenge my self. I looked at a few tree images online and I went straight in to modeling it. Here are a few screen shots of my tree model;

I added all the leaves and added some grass along the bottom. This was quite fun to do and I was very happy that this was just modeling and I wasn't going to texture them.

I still had some free time so I thought I should model something else so I modeled an amp and bass. Here are a few renders:

I just used a basic colour to colour the bass and the amp, just to give it a bit of life.
They are not great models and I could have done better but at the end of the day it is practice and I do wont to show people what I can do.

Now I can move on and edit them all together

Lighting

I have done all my modeling and my texturing, the only things left to do it light it and start to render it out. The only light in the cave is the fairy lights and the sun light that comes through the hole at the top of the cave. I wonted to make one side of the cave darker than the other, as only one side is hit by the sunlight. I must be careful thought as too little light can make it too dark to see any detail.
here are a few rendered scenes:

As you can also see I did as some water to the bottom of the cave it fill the cave out a little more.

I did the fairy lights different colours which look really nice in the reflection of the water. I made fairy lights because if people lived here they would need light to see when the sun goes down.
For the background I had to paint the light raze in to the scene or it wouldn't show where the beam of light would be coming from as well.

All I need to do now is render my scenes out and my cave city is completed.

Finished texturing.

Texturing is done on my enviroment, here is what it looks like so far, here are some screen shots of my textured enviroment:

At the minute it does look like it needs more objects to fill out more space, so I might add a few more things in to my scene.

Here is a play blast of my textured enviroment.

Texturing Friends work.

A 3rd year Jack needed help with his texturing. I offered to help as I thought this will be a great chance to show off my texturing skills in my show reel. He allowed me to feature his characters in my show reel. I said I will credit him in my show reel and make it clear that I just did the texturing for him. Here are a few screen shots of the textured characters I did:

The Troll:

This took me a Day too do. Aaron Dernley did the UV mapping and Jack did the models and I did the texturing.

The Girl:

Again Aron did the UV mapping, jack did the modeling and I did the texturing.

They where both painted on Photo shop and here are a screen shot off the UV map:

This is with and without the UV map.
The reason I decided to help Jack is that I felt that my enviroment would not be enough in my show reel. I also said that I wonted to do characters but was only really interested in the texturing part and i didn't have time to create a character and do my big environment. Lucy for my Jack said I could texture his characters and I was allowed to put them in my show reel. They didn't take me long to do about a day.

Peters work:
Since I wonted more for my show reel, Peter Charman let me texture his 1930s car for him. I didn't wont to do a boring simple colour, so I added some bullet holes and a little blood to give it a bit of a 'gangster' car look. Here are some screen shots:

here is the UV map of the car:

I did a little research to try and fine the car that looked like the model. i tried to see what colours they liked their cars back then and it was mainly black, black and red and black and green. This car is roughly around 1930s so they didn't have as many color choices as we do know.
I made bullet holes all over the car, I broke one of the lights and put bullet holes through the glass. I also added a little blood so i could give the car to suggest that someone got hit.

I will try and download a turn for each character, but Blogger will not allow me at this moment so i will try and Upload them as soon as possible.

Texturing my scene.

Since I have finished modeling my enviroment I can know start to texture my scene. I really enjoy texturing so I wont to show off my texturing skills in this enviroment.
Since I am doing a wild west theme I need to look in to the materials commonly used at the time.

I looked at some pictures on the Internet and looked at the materials used. I found that wood was mainly used. Its a strong, reusable material so wood would used quite a lot in my environment. I also had a look at my drawing and looked up different stone textures. red an yellow goes really well with wood. I also had a look in to the colour wheel so I can see what colour complement each other.

for other inspiration I also has a look at Red Dead Redemption. This is a game based on the Wild West. looking at this game can help me with texturing my enviroment.

Looking at these screen shots they use dark, dusty colours. Rusty signs and rotting wood really set off the scene.

Here are a few screen shots of my texturing so far.

here is a rendered scene of a house that will be attached to the rock.

This is what the UV map looks like for the house.

here is a screen shot of the textured stairs. I used an old wood texture, I tried to vary the wood colours so they don't all look the same.

this is the UV map of one of the steps.

In my next blog I shall talk more about my texturing.

It's coming along nicely

My modeling is almost done. all I need to do is add more building and add more stuff such as boxs and barrels to show that people live in this city.
Here are a few screen shots of my work so far:

I need to add more bits and bobs so it looks really nice and finished. What I plan to do it UV map and texture the objects I have know so that I can see what it needs. I am wanted to model this for a game so i am trying to pay attention to the detail. I also want people to be able to go around this city so objects need to be placed all over this city so it looks real.
Im my next blog I will be UV mapping and texturing. I also want to show you what my colour scheme will be and where my inspiration has come from.
